Gateway Shopping Centre, Galway

Barrett Mahony Consulting Engineers provided civil and structural engineering design services for the Phase 2 extension of Gateway Retail Park in Knocknacarra, Galway.

The development comprised an additional 11,700m² of retail space, supported by an 11,600m² basement providing additional car parking for the retail park. The works also included a new drive-through restaurant and upgrade works to the existing retail park.

The building structure consists of a concrete basement and ground floor structure, with a steel frame above supporting precast floor slabs. The suspended ground floor slab was designed to accommodate delivery truck traffic, facilitating servicing and deliveries to the retail units.

The external envelope includes a mix of stone and masonry walls, glazing, and insulated profiled sheeting.
