Completion of the refurbishment and extension of Block H at University College Dublin’s Newman Building.

We’re delighted to see the completion of this project for UCD. Barrett Mahony provided full Civil and Structural consulting engineering services for the detailed design and construction phases of this project.

The project delivered two additional floors to the existing single storey building along with new link structures to adjoining blocks E and K, internal refurbishment and external site works all completed within UCD's live campus environment.

Our scope included the assessment of the existing structure and sub-structures to cater for increased vertical and lateral loads from the two additional levels, alterations to existing precast façade elements for the new link structures, the design of the new steel frame with composite floor slabs for the vertical extension and new link structures along with all associated civil works.

The completed project provides high-quality academic workspace while carefully integrating the new extension with the existing Newman complex.

Practical Completion was achieved in June 2026.
