Project Announcement: Longford Center Parcs Expansion
Barrett Mahony Consulting Engineers is delighted to announce that we are providing civil and structural consultancy services to John Sisk & Son Ltd on the Longford Center Parcs expansion project.
Initially engaged during the tender process to provide design review and value engineering services, BMCE were subsequently engaged to provide full project civil and structural design services as part of the Sisk Design and Build team.
The project entails construction of 83 new lodges and a Lakeside restaurant along with associated roads and services. The expansion project has to deal with significant challenges in the ground, with the majority of the site comprising a surface layer peat overlying very soft Lacustrine deposits, which extend up to 9m below ground.
The innovative approaches to the construction of this project includes Deep Soil Mixing to improve the ground under roads and buried services corridors, and at the same time, avoid the import and export of enormous volumes of excavated material.
9 of the 13 clusters of lodges are being constructed on suspended ground floor raft slabs, supported on a network of mini-piles which extend to the hard strata beneath the soft Lacustrine deposits.
In all, over 1000 mini-piles are being installed to support the lodges. The collaborative approach taken by the Sisk construction and management teams, the Design Build design team and the Center Parcs client team has facilitated a successful start to this exciting project.
